While I was able to launch class two hobby rockets before this project, Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA) requires a Level 2 certification in order to fly rockets with motors larger than an I class.
To earn my level 2 certification, I needed to fly a rocket built by me alone with a J through L class motor. My recovery needed to deploy as expected, and I needed to pass a written exam.
Due to a limited budget, I decided to modify my TRA Level 1 certification rocket to use a dual deploy recovery method.
